White label vs Private Label Perfumes Explained
White label vs Private Label Perfumes Explained. Which one is right for you?
To put it simply, White label perfumes are generic scents with generic packaging that are marketed under different names. You have the possibility to customize the bottle and box by placing your logo on them.
The primary advantages of the White label perfumes are the low cost and the speed. As there is no research & development involved (all components are standard), you attain a very low price and a very quick reaction time until launch. We consider this an ideal solution for corporate gifts, goodies and entry level perfumes. The disadvantages of the White label perfumes to be considered are:
- lack of artistic expression: The perfume is above all an expression of your feelings, your story and your vision that you wish to share, your taste and preferences to be discovered by others. A standardized fragrance and product do not offer any of these.
- Lack of differentiation. Using a generic scent with almost identical packaging provides little to no differentiation. In a highly competitive market this is an important aspect to consider.
- Lack of creativity. Perfumery is a creative art. Creating a standardized industrial solution results in a product that does not stand out.
Private Label perfumes offer a significantly higher level of customization. While still based on pre-developed formulae, private label allows for customization of the fragrance, the bottle and the packaging. The advantages of this approach are the significantly higher levels of personalization – from the fragrance formula, to the creation of unique packaging based on a large selection of bottles and packaging solutions. The disadvantages of the Private Label perfumes are the higher level of investment and the extended Time to Market due to the R&D and production. As a customized product, it will further require testing and documentary filing. If you envisage to launch your perfume brand or create a niche perfume with a limited budget, this is probably the best solution to envisage.
These are in very brief what we consider the main points to consider prior to taking a decision.
