Steps in creating a private label perfume

The 7 steps in creating a private label perfume

Have you asked yourself how to make private label perfume? Here is a short summary of the key steps:

1. Establish the different parameters of your perfume project. Define the target market. Which countries are you targeting? What is the age bracket?  Do you want to create a unisex fragrance or a targeted one? What is the story you would like to share? How do you want to position the brand (luxury, high-end, medium, budget..)? What perfume notes will translate your vision into a market product? Develop your communication and sales strategy, work on the financial parameters.

2. Select the fragrance manufacturer. Our advice would be to choose a turnkey / all-in-one provider – this will spare you from working with multiple suppliers, complicated logistics chains and product testing . IPG Fragrances can assist you in all the steps – fragrance formulation, manufacturing, conditioning, storage, testing, legislation. If you prefer being in charge of different aspects of your operations, select providers that will give you this flexibility. Make sure that your partner is GMP-certified and possesses an ISO 9001:2015 quality certification to ensure you of the highest standards.

3. Select the fragrance. Make sure your fragrance reflects to the greatest extent your project vision. In a private label project you will be working with catalogue fragrances, yet make sure that these are not used in white label solutions, but are specifically developed for private label use. White label solutions are great for corporate gifts or personal events, but do not offer you any competitive advantage when you want to differentiate your brand.

4. Develop your physical product. Private label offers you the possibility to select amongst hundreds of bottles and packaging solutions, so that you can create a truly customized solution. Being unique and different is key in a market with such high level of competition. Every detail is important – design, colour codes, bottle, cap, pump, label and the exterior packaging.

5. Get your products market-ready. Depending on the countries/regions, undergo the testing, legislative and documentation requirements needed to register your products with the authorities.

6. You are ready to go! Prepare, if needed, export documentations, certifications, etc. Ship your products to the desired destinations. Attention! Perfumes are flammable, they require special land and air transportation documentation and licenses! Well, these are almost all the steps in creating a private label perfume. The last one is beyond us all, but it is also key:

7. Good luck!!!
